Welcome to our ‘Season of Food’ launch- an exciting promotion of our local food industry, our growers, producers, retailers, creatives and educators.  I Love Bello Shire is passionate about food and all aspects of the local food trail- so it’s time to celebrate.  Our stunning region is rich in climate, soils and talent, coupled with a sustainable ethos, resulting in a bounty of local, accessible food.  Our plan is to showcase all and hope to dig up some local secrets or quiet achievers along the way.

Bellingen ‘Food Photographer’ Stuart Scott has been scouring our region for the stunning and the quirky and will be generously sharing his most exquisite foodie shots over the next 2 months.  We caught up with Stuart a while back- well worth a read.

The dedicated growers from Bellinger River Organics will be discussing all things ‘ginger and garlic’, while Brierfield cattle farmer Alan Petersen will take us through natural, healthy practices and trends in the beef food chain. Well-known Naturopath and self-confessed “herb nerd” Reece Carter chose the Bellingen Shire to photograph his book “The Garden Apothecary”Homemade Recipes for Everyday Ailments” (published by Harlequin).  We will chat with Reece and share his ‘recipe for health’.
And what would a ‘Season of Food’ be without some recipes for our scrapbook?  Many of our local chefs, from our most iconic restaurants, share their beloved secrets, including Mitch and Neil from Popla, Denise and Steve of Anchor’s Wharf Cafe fame and Vicki Bridgstock, whose ‘shared international plates’ are making a stir at Little Red Kitchen each Wednesday evening.  Not to be outdone, some of our local ‘true country cooks’ are prepared to share more than just their wisdom.

We will gather essential tips on improving soils, raising goats, winemaking and beekeeping for honey.  Peter Wilkins will enlighten us about ‘Syntropic Farming’, where the aim is to reduce external inputs over time, while producing an abundance of horticultural, orchard, timber and other crops, with the added benefit of regenerating the soil in the process. You name it – ‘Season of Food’ has it.  Grow local, shop local, create local, eat local.  Book your table now!!
To get the feast started Bellingen’s multi-award winning IGA is very generously offering a $150 gift voucher to one of I Love Bello Shire’s e-newsletter recipients.  If you’re not already signed up- join here to go in the draw, and receive weekly stories celebrating our locals, deals & giveaway offers, events and more from across the Bellingen Shire.
