Gallery 2453: April Exhibition – Dorrigo
April 29 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 10:00am, repeating until May 3, 2017
The April exhibition at Gallery 2453 places the Arts Council of the Dorrigo within its broader social and historical context. It features 10 paintings that each won the Bellingen Shire Council Acquisitive First Prize at the annual Fine Arts Section of the Dorrigo Show. Featured artists include Caroline Allshorn, Chris Hundt, Peter Mulheron, Jenny Macnaughton, Di Clark, Louise Stanton, and Michael Riley.
Other items include costumes and props loaned by the Dorrigo Dramatic Club, especially the hand-painted costumes from their productions of Shakespeare. More unusual items loaned by the Dorrigo Historical Society include two scarves painted by Italian POWs stationed on the Plateau during WWII. There is also an intricate wooden coat rack hand-carved in the 1940s by Mother Aloysius from the local convent.
The ‘musicians’ corner’ features displays about well-known piano teacher Gladys Sawtell, the famous country musician Buddy Williams, and the Dorrigo Folk & Bluegrass Festival. Photographic items include a display of early C20th tourist postcards of the Plateau. Plus portraits by photographer Vivian Hoskins of artists and musicians at Made in Dorrigo Day.
